University works to bring social workers to rural West Kansas
The Kansas University School of Social Welfare has put a social work master’s degree program in sparsely populated Western Kansas in a push to attract more social workers to the region, this article in the Lawrence Journal-World said.
Many of the social work programs in the state are located in the East. After students graduate from these programs few go back to Western Kansas, the article said.
Of 4,000 licensed social workers in Kansas, fewer than 200 work in the western part of the state, the article said.
We’re hoping to do a good thing for Kansas,” said Mary Ellen Kondrat, dean of the KU social welfare school.
