In Memory: Mary Morris Seelaus
Long-time Philadelphia area social worker Mary Morris Seelaus has died, according to this obituary in Philly.com.
Seelaus, 80, who passed away due to complications from a stroke on June 4, held various social work positions in the region, including adjunct professor at Rutgers University, the article said.
Seelaus was part of a prayer group that met at Bainbridge House, a rowhouse on Hicks Street. The group did more than prayer — they also set up an award-winning community garden across the street from a crack house. The volunteers at Bainbridge House also tutored children at a nearby school.
According to her son Seelaus tutored at the school over a 20-year period.
