Social worker John R. Hudson, 62 became a quadriplegic after a 1973 pond diving accident.

But Hudson, who died Dec. 9 from cardiac arrest, didn’t let his handicap stop him, according to this Washington Post article.

He became an advocate for the disabled and even used a picture of  himself strapped to his wheelchair with ropes to protest the use of the term “wheelchair bound.” He preferred “wheelchair users.”

  1. John R. Hudson survived some 36 years following a diving accident that left him disabled as a quadriplegic. His spirit allowed him to turn this adversity into a call for advocacy. He advocated extremely successfully as per The Washington Post Article. I am sure he will be very much missed, both as a social worker and a human being.
