Michigan Social Workers Get the Axe When School Budget Cut
Jeers to the the East Grand Rapids school district for eliminating social work positions in elementary schools in an effort to help erase a $1 million budget shortfall. The board also pulled $800,000 out of savings and required administrators pay higher health insurance co-pay.
A Michigan Live article said the one board member Peter Rupert questioned the wisdom of eliminating social work positions while keeping two secretary positions. He was told the secretary positions were budget priorities already set by the board.
