Thanks to PennLive.com for their story on clearing clutter. The article highlighted the work of Colleen McDonnell, who owns Set Me Free!, a professional organizing service in central Pennsylvania.  The article identified McDonnell as a licensed social worker.

Overcoming a hoarding habit can ease depression, grief and anxiety but is no substitute for therapy, McDonnell said.

“The person’s mind often feels as cluttered as their surroundings,” she said.

Social workers have long recognized hoarding is problem that could worsen as America’s population ages. In fact, the National Association of Social Workers has a Specialty Practices Web page on Hoarding that has information on hoarding  that dates back almost a decade.
