Hawaii Social Worker Layoffs Hurting Children

  1. The same thing just happened in Puerto Rico, similar services have been reduced. Close to like a month and a half ago, they just laid off seventeen thousand government employees, and the governor is saying that he’s planning to reduce Child Welfare Service offices from 103 to 25 in the whole island, insane isnt it?’On that last round of layoffs he just laid off psychologists and attorneys from that agency, and he’s planning to layoff more people by January 2010…Governor Luis Fortuño, with his neoliberalism vision.. Us as social workers we need to influence on public policy in order for these events not to happen so our clients won’t be affected by these politicians who do not consider society by making these kind of decisions.
