Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Work Professor Virginia Strand, DSW,  recently received a $1.8-million federal grant to improve child trauma education and development around the nation.

The three-year grant will create a National Center for Social Work Trauma Education and Workforce Development at the New York university. The center will study evidence-based approaches to address child and adolescent trauma social work, Strand said. Too much of today’s methods are guided by decades-old “practical wisdom,” she said.

  3. Heartfelt congratulations to you Dr. Strand!! In the context of the pervasiveness of child trauma,
$1.8 million dollars over three years, seems like a “drop in the bucket”. I fervently hope that a lot more grant money continues to come in to study the overwhelming number of victims of childhood trauma, the devastating effects of same in later life and evidence based treatment protocol to help in the eradication of this most pressing problem.
