The National Association of Social Workers’ “Long-Term Services and Supports” policy statement highlights the high demand for direct care workers, who provide essential services for low wages and with limited access to health insurance.

The CARE documentary illuminates the close relationships between direct care workers and the older adults and families whom they serve; the challenging working conditions faced by direct care workers; and the barriers older adults and family caregivers experience in accessing home-based direct care.

Social workers can get involved by watching the live broadcast on PBS on September 5, accessing the live stream video archive for 30 days thereafter, attending or hosting a watch party (September 5-October 5), or attending or hosting a local screening event (beginning in August and continuing throughout the fall).

Social workers help people, including adults who are older and their families, overcome life’s challenges. To learn more visit the NASW’s HelpStartsHere.org website.
