Actress Naomie Harris Plays Social Worker in “Southpaw”

British actress Naomie Harris, better known for her breakout role as a zombie fighter in “28 Days Later” and Ms. Moneypenny in the James Bond flick “Skyfall,” will play a social worker in the boxing upcoming boxing movie “Southpaw.”

In the film Jake Gyllenhaal portrays light heavyweight champ Billy Hope. Hope wins one of the biggest matches in his career only to lose his money, mansion, family and career after a fatal altercation.

Southpaw will begin showing in theaters on July 24. Check the film’s official website to find out where it is playing in your area.

Hope falls into addiction. Harris plays social worker Angela Rivera, who helps Hope and his daughter, who is placed in child protective services.

It will be interesting to see whether this film portrays social workers accurately or falls back on stereotypes of social workers who work in child protection agencies.
