When Tragedy Hits, Social Workers Lend a Helping Hand
We commend Naperville, Ill. police chief David Dial for his Naperville Sun column on how social worker Mike Hoffman and Chaplain Tom Ross helped stunned witnesses at the scene of a horrific traffic accident.
The Nov. 30 column contained an email account of the tragedy from Hoffman. Dial wrote:
“Mike’s e-mail is a graphic reminder of the great works our social workers and chaplains do on a daily basis to help the rest of us cope with the traumatic struggles life brings. We can all be thankful for the existence of these men and women.”

I further commend the work of the social worker and chaplain involved in this tragedy.
I hope that more professionals would look into the area of “Disaster Respond/Preparedness” and/or “Critical Incident Stress Management/Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISM/CISD)”, which are one of many ER Modules to follow in trageic events.
Keep up the good work!!!
