Welsh Man Explains Why Social Work So Vital

Cheers to WalesOnline.co.uk for this column from Colin Turner.

Social workers in the United Kingdom have taken a lot of public criticism related to several child murders. However, Turner explained why he returned to social work in Wales after serving for four years as the head of safeguarding and child protection at the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.

What he wrote can apply to social workers in the United States. Here is an excerpt:

“They often work under considerable pressure with minimal resources, but are rarely given the recognition they deserve for turning round chaotic, dysfunctional family lives and for helping vulnerable children break free from the cycle of abuse and neglect.”
