Cheers to New York City’s NY1 television news for getting gas service restored to a senior citizens center run by the Association of Black Social Workers.

According to this article the landlord cut off gas more than a month ago due to a leak. Elderly people who depended on the center for a hot, affordable and nutritious meal were forced to go elsewhere.

“Once you’ve been here for nine years and do this and it is taken away and then you realize what you have here,” said senior Margaret Monod Kelly.

The center is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the basement of the Ascension Church. The facility has been open since 1975.

NY1 contacted the church and the Department of Buildings and gas service was restored in a few days.
