The town of Melbourne, Fla., has renamed a street in honor of retired social worker Sandra Pelham, this Florida Today article said.

Pelham has led the Neighborhood Watch in the Powell subdivision for eight years, greatly reducing crime in the neighborhood.

The watch group also organizes programs to feed neighborhood children and supply them with school supplies and books.

“We are real proud of her, it’s been over eight years and she is still sticking with it,” Melbourne Mayor Kathy Meehan said. “To keep everybody motivated and keeping it going is very hard.”

Cheers to Florida Today for covering Pelham’s story.
