Cheers to Keloland TV in South Dakota for showing the public some of the positive things social workers in hospitals do for clients.

Social worker Rochelle DeGroot has proved a valuable ally for Chol Gak, 3, who was born with a kidney disability and needs dialysis four times a week.

DeGroot, BSW, helped Chol’s parents get assistance to supplement their health insurance, helped coordinate his transportation to the hospital, and even helped arrange a visa so his grandmother in Kenya could visit and help the family care for their other children.

“Every time we have a problem, we call her, even at night,” Chol’s father Joseph Dhieu said.

Social workers help clients overcome illnesses and live healthier lifestyles. To learn more visit the National Association of Social Workers’ “Help Starts Here” Health and Wellness website.
