Social Work Student Gets Quilt Made to Honor Dead Mother, Others

Cheers to the WEAU.com for running this bittersweet article about Courtney Munger, a social work student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Munger and her brother took part in a  youth grief support group facilitated by university social work students after their mother died in 1995. Munger, who was 10 years old at the time, made a quilt square in honor of her mother.

Munger saw the quilt hanging on the social work school wall while taking classes, noticed her name and quilt square on it, and remembered she had made it. Social work faculty decided to give the quilt to Munger, who is a senior and will graduate.

“I brought the quilt to my parent’s house and showed it to my dad, stepmother and brother,” Munger said. “They were excited to see it and glad that I have it. My brother is younger so he remembered a little about the group but didn’t remember the quilt.”
