Program Helps Filipino Students Get Social Work Master’s Degrees

Steven Muncy

Cheers to the Philippine Daily Inquirer for this article on a Catholic University of America National Catholic School of Social Service program that enables students in the war-torn Cotabato region earn social work master’s degrees.

By training more social workers, Catholic University and partner organizations hope to help thousands of people in the area who were displaced by armed conflict between the Philippine government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

“Professors come here. They’re doing everything for free. They don’t get extra pay. They don’t get time off. They don’t get extra brownie points for doing this,” said Steven Muncy, a social worker in the Philippines for 30 years and executive director of Community and Family Services International (CFSI).
