It was a second marriage last June for National Association of Social Workers member Suzanne Gavin Gould and husband Jeffrey Gould. They have six children between them, good careers, and really didn’t need another toaster.

So instead of taking gifts they asked guests to contribute through the UJA-Federation to a  program that assists Long Island and New York adults and children who are victims of domestic violence, according to this article in the Wall Street Journal.

The Goulds and their wedding guests contributed $20,000 to a program operated by the nonprofit FEGS Health and Human Services System.

Suzanne Gould wants to do  more fundraisers. “My dream is one day to open a shelter,” she says. “That’s the ultimate goal.”
