Learning English Helps Woman Pursue Social Work Career
Cheers to the Carlsbad Current-Argus for this article on social worker Mari Campos-Waite.
Campos-Waite emigrated to the United States from Costa Rica not knowing English. However, her English skills improved dramatically after she enrolled in programs at the Carlsbad Literacy Center.
She went on to earn associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in social work and got a license in social work, the article said.
“I knew that I would have to understand the English language and speak it very well if I was going to succeed,” Campos-Waite said. “Fortunately, I love to study. I didn’t want to stay in this country the rest of my life unable to speak English.
