It Takes a Village to Raise a Family

When Memphis, Tenn. resident Isaac Morris saw a TV report that said Kansas City, Mo., was more affordable and had more jobs he hopped on the bus with wife Christine McCann and daughter Erica and headed there, according to this article in the Kansas City Star.

He didn’t have a job, a home or even a high school diploma. However, Morris and his family had hope and the drive to succeed.

Cheers to the Kansas City Star for talking about how school social worker Kerry Wrenick and charitable organizations such as Metro Lutheran Ministries and Community Employment Inc., helped Morris and his family get job training, education, and other assistance to find work and move out of a homeless shelter into their own home.

“People say ‘just pull yourself up by your bootstraps,’ but it’s not as easy as they think,” Wrenick said. “It’s so much deeper and so much harder.”
