Illness Gave Social Worker Margaret Singer New Perspective

Margaret Singer talks with client Ignacio Rodriguez at the Su Casa Hispanic Center in Carthage.

Cheers to the Cincinnati Enquirer for this touching article about Catholic Charities Su Casa Hispanic Center social worker Margaret Singer.

Singer has long worked with some of the most marginalized people in American society, including poor blacks and immigrants. She says having crippling multiple schlerosis gave her skills needed to meet the needs of others.

“I’m glad I’ve not blamed God for what happened to me,” she said. “It’s not what I would have wanted. I don’t know why I have it. I have tried to figure it out. ”

“But it has helped me. I can identify more with the minority. I think I have more empathy. I’ve been knocked down.”
