Helping Athletes Balance Emotions

Tampa social worker Vince Lodato helps coach softball, lacrosse and other sports teams. However, he isn’t helping athletes perfect their pitches.

Instead Lodato, MSW, counsels athletes on how to better handle the emotions of being in a competitive and often stressful environment. According to this article in the Seminole Heights Patch, Lodata works with the Tampa Catholic High School girl’s softball team, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Tampa Bay Fire Elite lacrosse program, Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays.

“Any kid who has an exceptional talent, there are certain pressures on them,” Lodato said. “I try to help them keep their balance, focus on their goals and use every resource available to them to help them get to where they want to go.”

Cheers to the Seminole Heights Patch for recognizing yet another valuable service social workers provide.

  1. This is exactly the type of environment I wish to work in. I’m currently in the process of getting my MSW, how can I get involved in this field?

  2. Is there a job market for this field? I am getting my LCSW and would like to specialize in this area.
