Cheers to the Washington Post for this story on Danielle Pleasant, a woman who struggled to reunite with her five children in foster care.

Pleasant has battled a host of problems, including HIV, drug addiction, mental illness, and improving her parenting skills.

The article highlights the help the family got from Chanell Scott, a 31-year-old social worker from Youth Villages. “She wants what’s best for them and she knows that being together is what’s best for them,” Scott said.

Q. Social workers, do you think reuniting foster children with their birth families should be a top priority, even if parents are struggling with addictions and other problems?
