Adoptive Mother: Social Workers Prepare You for Having Children

Andrea Poe

Cheers to freelance writer and public relations consultant Andrea Poe for writing about how social workers help prospective parents prepare for adoptions.

Poe wrote in this Washington Times column about  her nervousness when a social worker visited her and husband Scott Jensen were before they adopted a Vietnamese girl in 2006. She discovered social workers were not on the hunt for perfect, unflawed people to be parents.

Here’s some of what she wrote:

“The social worker isn’t in search of the world’s greatest parents.  He or she is there to uncover who you are, to get to know you and ultimately prepare you for having children.  So, yes, you’d be wise to embrace the process, but that doesn’t mean you won’t also be embracing some sleepless nights.”
