British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw portrays social worker Clea Hopkins on “Touch,” a Fox series that premieres at 9 p.m. Eastern on March 22.

In “Touch” actor Kiefer Sutherland portrays Martin Bohm, a widower who has mute son Jake (actor David Mazouz) who is obsessed with numbers and cellphones.

Martin and Clea realize his son can use numbers to decipher the connections between humankind and his powers can be used for good. However, Clea must remain professional and ensure Jake is not endangered.

Mbatha-Raw, the daughter of a South African doctor and British nurse, did not know social workers before taking the role. However, she has met with social workers and visited facilities that employ social workers in order to hone her role.

Mbatha-Raw spoke with SocialWorkersSpeak.org and wanted to send this Social Work Month message to members of the profession:

“I have absolute admiration for someone who undertakes such a challenging and bottomless (neverending) job. Anyone going into it has to have a selfless heart. It’s a mixture of being strong and empathetic.  The more I learn about social work the more I’m inspired.”
