National Association of Social Workers member Lyn Dee Kealey, MSW, LISW, works with burn victims at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Burn Unit.

So when Iowa State Fire Marshall Ray Reynolds suggested she help organize a Guiness Book of World Record stunt to help promote fire prevention Kealey didn’t hesistate to act, according to this article in the Press-Citizen in Iowa City.

Kealey helped persuade 1,519 people to do a stop, drop and roll fire extinguishing exercise at the end of the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 21, breaking the old record of 602 people set in Indiana. The results have been sent to Guiness Book of World Records editors.

Kealey said she is committed to helping people recover from burns, a job that can emotionally taxing for caregivers.

“What attracted me initially was helping people through a trauma,” she said. “What’s kept me here is I see people come through a tragedy…and they take a terrible event and make a positive.”

Cheers to the Press-Citizen for covering the story.
