A woman who practiced social work without a license has been sentenced to five years in prison for depositing $75,000 in forged checks into her account that were made out to one of her clients, according to this Chicago Tribune article.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in 2009 fined Kimberly Even $10,000 for practicing social work without a license. However Even, 48, continued to identify herself as a licensed clinical social worker or certified alcohol and drug counselor.

Even came to public attention after one of her clients, 20-year-old Chase Beh, died from an heroin overdose and it was found Even was not licensed to do drug counseling. You can read a SocialWorkersSpeak.org item on that incident.

  1. I was one of her clients for about 3 1/2 years. I’m not going to say that she ruined my life or anything..but she did screw me over in plenty of ways. She followed me to rehab in Provo Utah (probably bc she was on the run) she had a strange relationship with all if the male clients there and she just got weirder and weirder as time went on. I started growing impatient with her towards the end of my stay at new roads, and while on a phone call with my dad, I got angry and started raising my voice. The call was on speaker phone and I just wanted to talk to my dad in private so I picked it up. Kim got angry at me so I got up to leave the room and she started screaming that I had hit her with the phone and later claimed that I had sprained/broken her wrist. I was kicked out if the rehab, left by myself for 2 weeks in the detox part of the center where I had little to no social contact. Kim threatened to call the cops and have me arrested which scared the hell out of me bc nobody was believing me that I didn’t hit her with the phone or anything for that matter. She wore a fake brace around her wrist and brought a client around with her if she ever had to come and speak to me. She treated me like I was a monster and everyone believed I was bc her word was more credible than mine. My parents believed that I did it and they decided I needed a year more of treatment for my “anger issues” (total of 17 months) the reason all this unfolded was because one night I was on Facebook talking to a kid I was on kind outpatient with. I told him kim was there with me and he told me how she was a fraud and that his parents had been trying to get ahold of her so they could be reimbursed for all the money they had spent. He then sent me the link explaining the situation and how she was wanted in illinois. I got really upset with Kim and I started sharing this information with some of the staff members. Not too long after I went to the guy who ran the show and that is why Kim got upset with me while I was talking to my dad and why she claimed that I hit her and broke her wrist. I’m glad she ended up in jail. She deserved it. She is a pathetic excuse for a human being.
