When a parent comes out

Recently, in two unrelated cases, a mom I know and a friend of a friend found themselves getting divorced after their husbands said they were gay. To get a sense of how parents should handle such situations, I talked with Wendy Blenning, a licensed clinical social worker in Portland whose counseling specialties include marital difficulties and coming out.

It’s very scary how parents overlook how the the way they handle this situation can affect their child…but the advice the social worker gave was very good.
