West Virginia anti-truancy push overwhelming social workers
West Virginia’s judicial branch launched an initiative to lower the state’s school truancy rate but there are not enough social workers to fully implement it, according to this article from WOWKTV.com.
About one in five West Virginia public school students had five or more unexcused absences last year and 9 percent were truant for more than 10 days.
The program is getting results but there is still not enough staff at the Department of Health and Human Resources to handle all truancy cases, the article said.
