Charleston County schools get $1.2 million grant for social workers

Five of Charleston County’s highest-need elementary schools will be able to add a social worker to their staff rosters as a result of a $1.2 million, three-year federal grant announced this week. Charleston is one of 43 school districts nationally and one of two in South Carolina — the other is Union County — to receive an Elementary and Secondary School Counseling grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand or establish counseling programs.
