The University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work in Kentucky will get a $4.8-million federal grant to help battle teen pregnancy, according to this article in the Courier-Journal.
The grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health is the largest the social work school has ever received.
Anita Barbee, a National Association of Social Workers member and professor at the school, is leading the program. The program will serve 1,200 boys and girls ages 14 to 19 in at-risk groups in west and south-central Louisville.
Kentucky has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the nation, with 50 out of 1,000 girls becoming pregnant. Barbee hopes the program will cut that number at least in half, the article said.
