Louise Brown

Social worker Louise Brown, 94, devoted decades of her life to improving child day care services and educating people to be better parents, according to this obituary in the Detroit Free Press.

Brown, who earned her master’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1954, became director of the Detroit/Wayne County Child Care Coordinating Council in 1972. Previously she had worked at Wayne State University’s Merrill Palmer Skillman Insitute for child and family development.

Brown received the Woman of Conscience award from the National Council of Women in 1968 and was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame in 1988.

A widow, she retired to Florida where she died on April 22. She is survived by three sons, a daughter, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
