Guam working to license social workers

Guam is the only U.S. state or territory that does not require social workers be licensed but social workers there are fighting to change that, according to this editorial on Guampdn.com.

The Guam Social Work Practice Act, or Bill 461, would require all social workers in Guam be licensed by the Social Work Board and renew their licenses on a regular basis.

The National Association of Social Workers Guam Chapter and students in the University of Guam’s social work program crafted the legislation with senators in the territory. Guampdn.com urged lawmakers to pass the bill and for Gov. Eddie Calvo to sign it into law.
