Cancer Story Mentions Valuable Role of Social Workers
The Philadelphia Inquirer recently ran an uplifting article about Anna O’Connor, a 24-year-old woman battling a rare form of cancer.
The story mentioned the emotional toll of working with young people with life-threatening cancers and how the folks at Philadelphia Children’s Hospital manage it:
“It’s a brutal business, treating little children with cancer and seeing so many die. That’s why the Children’s Hospital neuroblastoma team relies on a social worker to help everyone cope – including the doctors.”
Social workers often help people suffering from cancer and other illnesses and their families. To learn more, visit the National Association of Social Workers “Help Starts Here” Health & Wellness Web page.
