Matthew Tully
Indianapolis Star columnist Matt Tully is writing an article series on Manual, a city high school with a 39 percent graduation rate. More than 70 percent of students also qualify for free or reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty.
Social Workers Speak! likes that Matt interviewed a social worker who is reaching out to students. In the article, “A Message to Manual: People Care,” Tully mentioned Jan Gildner, a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Social Work.
Gildner is mentoring two Manual High students who said they are interested in social work careers. “You reach a point in your career where you want to give back,” Gildner said.
