Former Coca-Cola Chief Executive Officer Neville Isdell is pushing “connected capitalism.” Under this concept, companies should continue make profits but use their influence for positive social change.

Companies such as United Parcel Service and Sun Trust Banks have already signed up for Isdell’s campaign. Read this article in Forbes Magazine to learn more.

It is no surprise Isdell is so interested in social activism. He is the son of social activists and a trained social worker who fought to end apartheid in South Africa.

Q: Companies such as Target have hired social workers to help them improve the communities they serve. Do you think social workers should try to pursue more ties with corporate America to pursue their goals?

  1. I’ve never quite understood why social workers have been afraid to interact with corporate America. While we need to continue to be change agents, sometimes that change is easier if it comes from within.

  2. Social workers should recognize their potential as business managers and leverage their skills within organizations–the only difference is that we’re managing toward a mission, not just the bottom line.
