TV to Watch: PBS to Show Irena Sendler Documentary

The documentary “Irena Sendler: In the Name of Their Mothers” will air nationally on PBS on May 1, which is National Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The film from director Mary Skinner is about Polish social worker heroine Irena Sendler and her team of social workers who saved hundreds of Jewish children from the Nazis. The children were taken from the Warsaw ghetto, trained on how to live among Gentiles, and placed in orphanages in private homes.

Skinner already made the film available to the National Association of Social Workers. To read about the December 2010 screening at NASW headquarters in Washington, D.C., click here.

The documentary is also special because it is the last recorded interview with Sendler, who died in 2008 at age 98.
