Real-life Social Workers, Foster Care System Inspired Episode on ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7
ABC’s “Detroit 1-8-7” crime drama (Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern) last month aired an episode about a group of renegade social workers and parents who run a secret organization to rescue abused children in the foster care system.
The episode stirred a lot of buzz among social workers on the SocialWorkersSpeak.org Web site and Facebook. At least one social worker said they would also break the law to save a child.
“At least all of the social workers that I have been in contact over the years of my experience have been fantastic and have been out just selflessly helping these children day in and day out way beyond the time that they clock out,” she said.
Toscano talked with Greg Wright, manager of SocialWorkersSpeak.org, Stephanie Chambers, manager of the National Association of Social Workers Professional Development Division and Becky Ow-Arhus, a senior practice associate at the Professional Development Division.
