Social Worker Wins Special Title at Ms. America Pageant
Social worker Carla Gonzalez was crowned Ms. America International in April in Anaheim, Calif., according to this press release.
Ms. American International is a special title given at the Ms. America pageant. Model, actress, and corporate spokesperson Nicole Rash was crowned Ms. America 2012.
The Ms. America pageantĀ is for women 26 years of age and up who are single, divorced or married. The pageant was created to, among other things, empower women across the nation, celebrate their accomplishments, and encourage involvement in community service.
Gonzalez earned her masters degree in social work from the University of Oklahoma and has been an employee of the Oklahoma Department of Health for more than 20 years.
Gonzalez is a motivational speaker and travels to schools throughout the state giving educational presentations on anti-Bullying, Internet Safety and teen dating violence.
She has served on various boards and committees, including the Single Parenting Network Organization, Human Trafficking Task Force, Oklahoma Coalition against Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault Advisory Committee and Violence against Women and Girls Subcommittee.
