Social Work Club at Warner University Aids Community

A Warner University classroom was filled with student members of the social work and psychology club one recent morning, and official business was being discussed. The agenda for the Social Work/Psychology Student Association wasn’t really about the students. It was all about people who need help, and ways the club may be of service.

The social work program at Northern Arizona University (NAU) has partnered with the Arizona Department of Economic Security to offer social work students a special grant. Up to 20 students in the social work degree program who agree to work for Child Protective Services (CPS) upon graduating will receive financial assistance to pay for their tuition and fees.

Last week, members of the board of directors of the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy (CRISP) had the privilege of sitting down with former congressman and mayor of Oakland, California Ronald V. Dellums to get his views about how CRISP can be effective in our efforts to expand opportunities for social workers to engage the federal government.  The meeting was arranged by former Congressman Edolphus Towns, founder of the Congressional Social Work Caucus who was instrumental in creating CRISP.
