NASW Chapter Against NC Marriage Amendment

The National Association of Social Workers North Carolina Chapter and other organizations have come out against an amendment that would add the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman to the state constitution, according to this article on WRAL.com.

Officials from the North Carolina Psychological Association  and North Carolina Psychiatric Association also spoke out against the measure during a Tuesday press conference, the article said. Meanwhile, Carolina’s Chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists’ board of directors adopted a statement opposing the amendment.

Supporters of the amendment said it would protect the state’s gay marriage ban from changes.

However, opponents said the amendment could have far ranging effects on family law. There is also no evidence  same-sex parents are less capable of raising children, opponents said.
