In Memory: Phyllis Rochelle

Dr. Phyllis Rochelle, a retired professor and dean of the San Francisco State University School of Social Work, has died of breast cancer, according to a Lima News obituary.

Rochelle, 83,  was an Ohio native and will be buried there.

She was a Fulbright Scholar and served on various national and local boards of directors and was a member of the accreditation commission and national vice-president for the Council on Social Work Education.

Rochelle did clinical work with disturbed juveniles as a psychiatric social worker for the California Youth Authority and the Family Court Center in Toledo, Ohio.

She was also a breast cancer activist and was one of the founders and chairperson of the Breast Cancer Assistance Group of Monterey Peninsula.

She is survived by a good friend, M. Taylor; a sister, Jenelle Dove;  four nieces, six nephews and their children; and her pets Jodie and Jesse.
