In Memory: Michael J. Brady

Michael J. Brady

National Association of Social Workers member Michael J. Brady, a tireless advocate for the mentally ill, died on Nov. 27 at age 61, according to his obituary in the Forest Leaves.

The Oak Park, Ill., resident led two offices of Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago for 11 years. He frequently lobbied against state budget cuts in services for the mentally ill.

Brady earned a master’s degree in social work from Loyola University and served with the Peace Corps in South Korea as a public healthcare worker. He loved working in Korea, visited the country last year, and organized a traveling exhibit, “A Story of Volunteerism: Americans in Korea, Koreans in the World.”

Brady is survived by his wife Maria Garvy and daughters Gabrielle, Madeline and Alice.
