Wanted in Western Tennessee: Social Workers

There will be “excellent” demand for some work specialities in and around Jackson in the western part of Tennessee, according to this article in the Jackson Sun.

Social workers in most demand will be in the mental health, substance abuse, medical and public health sectors, according to the article, which used Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s data.

The 12-county area around Jackson is expected to need 30 new mental health and substance abuse social workers each year through 2016. These jobs will pay an average of $28,000 a year.

The region will need 20 new medical and public health social workers annually during this period at an average pay of $32,800 a year, the article said.

The demand for social workers around the nation is supposed to rise at a faster-than-average rate through 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
