A group of Saudi women are planning to protest that nation’s ban on women drivers on October 26, according to this Bloomberg article. Organizers are urging women to drive cars.

One of the protestors is social worker Fawziah al-Hani, who says the cost of hiring a driver is taking a toll on her budget. But she has far larger reasons for pushing for the right of women to drive.

“I’m not fighting for my rights alone, I’m fighting for my children’s,”  she said. “Some of my daughters are studying abroad. They call me sometimes and tell me they don’t want to come back to Saudi Arabia.”

Social workers are committed to equal treatment for all, including women. To learn more visit the National Association of Social Workers’ Diversity and Equity website.
