Social Worker Saves Gaugin Painting

An unidentified social worker from the Bronx tackled a woman who banged on the clear plastic covering over Paul Gaugin’s painting “Two Tahitian Woman” on April 1 and tried to pull the artwork off the wall, according to the this article in the Washington Post.

The woman screamed, “This is evil,” before pounding on the portrait with her fist.  The painting, which features two bare-breasted Tahitian women, is part of a Gaugin exhibit which will be displayed at the National Gallery until June 1.

The attacker went to court but has not been identified. The newspaper also did not know the status of her case.

  1. This is a real publicity stunt for the National Gallery! What is concerning, however, is the fact that people who should get the mental health treatment can so easily threaten these precious works and even the visitors who come to the National Gallery.
