In Memoriam: Katherine Williams

Noted social worker and educator Katherine Williams of Gainesville, Ga. died on Wednesday at age 100, according to this article on AccessNorthGa.com.

Williams earned a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University in New York City. Williams, who taught veterans returning from World War II through extension programs, pioneered the concept of a learning service center.

She also developed patient care programs for hospitals and nursing homes in northeast Georgia.

Williams was assistant professor of social work at the University of Georgia and supervised graduate student placements in Gainesville. She was also active in several community groups, including the Girl Scouts and Junior League.
