Social Workers Help Children Caught in Sex Trade

Photo illustration by Wichita Eagle.

The Wichita Eagle recently did this article on two men arrested for prostituting and paying for the services of underage sex workers.

The article mentioned the outreach done by social workers Karen Countryman-Roswurm and Anne Lund. Lund works for the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services human trafficking team. Countryman-Roswurm is a former teen runaway who works with runaways and sex trade survivors.

“Child prostitute is an oxymoron,” Countryman-Roswurm said. “Is a child who’s 13 years old emotionally intellectually capable of making a decision such as that? Absolutely not. Especially when you look at her background.”

  1. This is such a sad story of the reality of a child running away from an abusive environment right into another abusive environment.
I so admire the social workers that are helping these all but forgotten children. They are not prostitutes…they are victims.
This article is like reading a contemporary Charles Dickens novel.
