Social Workers Called to Help Lower China’s Soaring Divorce Rate
Social workers will staff China divorce offices in a bid to lower that country’s rapidly rising divorce rate, according to this article on English.Eastday.com.
“Professionally trained social workers will offer free services, including love mediation and legal aid, to help couples resolve marital strife and seek solutions other than divorce,” said Gu Xiuqin, director-general of the China Association of Social Workers’ marriage and family-affairs committee.
According to the article 1.96 million couples filed for divorce in China in 2010, up 14.5 percent from the previous year.
