Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Maryland) is expected to announce at 11 a.m. EST that she will not seek a reelection in 2016, according to this article in USA Today.

Mikulski, 78, is the longest serving woman in Congress and is ranking Democrat on the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee. She was first elected to the Senate in 1986.

Mikulski is a social worker from Baltimore and a member of the Congressional Social Work Caucus. She also served on the Baltimore City council and in the U.S. House of Representatives.
