Arizona social worker and Democrat Kyrsten Sinema has beat Tea Party Republican Vernon Parker to win a seat in the U.S. Congress to represent a new Congressional district in Phoenix, this Washington Post article said.

Sinema, MSW, had a narrow lead on election night. That lead has now grown to about 6,000 votes.

Sinema said she is “honored and ready to start working for the people of Arizona.”

The former Arizona state senator will become the first openly bisexual person to serve in Congress.  Wisconsin Tammy Baldwin also made history by becoming the first openly gay person elected to the U.S. Senate.
